Description

Arthropod-I proposes deploying a phased array feed directly on the ground to achieve continuous all-sky monitoring for transient events and technosignatures. Like an insect's compound eye providing panoramic vision, this ground-based PAF eliminates the dish reflector and uses electronic beam steering to monitor the entire visible sky simultaneously. Building on APERTIF at Westerbork and collaborating with Breakthrough Listen, the prototype will demonstrate feasibility for detecting bright FRBs, stellar flares, and potential technosignatures. Future deployment at multiple sites could enable true 24/7 all-sky coverage, ensuring no bright transient or signal goes undetected.
