One of the key issues affecting many LOFAR science cases is the limited accuracy of the LOFAR beam model, which was developed as a simple dual-dipole model in the early days. Improved simulation tools and increased computational power now bring full or semi-full simulations of the LOFAR stations—including mutual coupling effects—within reach. However, these large models still need to be implemented in the LOFAR data analysis tools and scientifically validated.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together scientists, software developers, and engineers to define a solution for simulating, implementing, and validating the LOFAR beam model, for both LBA and HBA. During the workshop, there will be opportunities to present science use cases and (partial) solutions, but there will also be a strong focus on taking the next step toward a fully implemented LOFAR beam model.
We invite participants to present their current results and ideas on LOFAR beam simulation, implementation and/or science/validation. The length of the presentations will be 20+5 minutes and they will be scheduled on the first two days of the workshop. Please submit title and abstract through the registration form.
