Traveling from Schiphol Amsterdam Airport

After arriving at Amsterdam Schiphol airport, you have to travel further by train (taken at the same airport). The schedules can be found on the Dutch Railways website. For train schedules, you can go to: https://www.ns.nl/en/travel-information.

  • If you are joining the shuttle services that we will organize on Sunday afternoon/evening, your destination is the station at "Hoogeveen", which is the nearest train station to Dwingeloo (takes approx. 2 hours). We will then take you to your accommodation, either in Dwingeloo or Lhee. We will communicate these shuttle services in the coming days.
  • If you are taking your own commuting to Lhee: then we recommend to travel to the Beilen train station, and there there is a bus that can take you to Lhee. You can check the combinations at 9292.nl. Another option is to travel to Hoogeveen and then book a taxi to Lhee (~20 min travel, ~50€).
  • If you are taking your own commuting to Dwingeloo: a quicker way can be to stop at the train station of Meppel, and there is a direct bus from Meppel station to Dwingeloo.

You can either buy train tickets in advance or at a machine upon arrival. Before entering the train please validate your train ticket. Detailed information on traveling by train and on how to purchase tickets can be found here: https://www.astron.nl/contact/visiting-astron/visit-dwingeloo-hq/.

Purchasing train tickets - at ticket machines or in advance via website
At Schiphol Amsterdam airport or any other railway station you should buy a train ticket (ticket has a chip) from the machine. These ticket machines accept major credit cards and debit cards with a Maestro logo.

  • Public transport information can be found at 9292.nl.
  • NS train tickets are valid for the entire day and you don't need to specify an exact departure time.
  • Please note that NS tickets are non-refundable.

Transport between hotels and JIVE

The ASTRON building, where JIVE is situated, is located in a tranquil environment at the edge of a national park. The nearest bus stop is 2-4 km away from the institute. The best way to get from accommodations in or around Dwingeloo to the institute is to rent a bicycle. We can arrange rental bikes at a reduced rate (EUR 7 per day).

Your bike will be ready for pick-up at the hotel or JIVE, based on your indicated arrival time in the taxi form.

Hotels

For participants of the JIVE VLBI School, block booking of roomswill be made at two different hotels (see below) but you are free to book any accommodation you prefer.
