The JIVE VLBI School (JVS 2025) is an exciting opportunity for professionals and students interested in the field of very long baseline interferometry (VLBI).
The JVS 2025 is designed to provide comprehensive training in data processing and imaging techniques specific to VLBI observations with the European VLBI Network (EVN). Participants will benefit from:
- General Lectures covering fundamental concepts in radio interferometry and delving into the specifics of VLBI.
- Hands-On Sessions: gaining practical experience through extensive hands-on tutorials focused on processing and analyzing VLBI data.
- Interactive Learning: Attend common lectures streamed live from both venues and participate in parallel tutorial sessions tailored to enhance your understanding and skills.
The school will be held simultaneously at the Joint Institute for VLBI ERIC (JIVE) in Dwingeloo (the Netherlands), and the University of Pretoria (South Africa), with the latter serving as an auxiliary venue with limited participation. An online participation will also be possible, with the availability of following the lectures, and resolve the doubts with the experts via chat. However, we note that the hands-on sessions will be mainly in person. Note that there will be a limited number of seats available at both locations.
Participation will not be prioritized based on registration date. After the registration deadline on 16 May 2025, the Local Organizing Committee will confirm participants on 1 June and, if necessary, select them based on early career status and relevance to the school's objectives.
JVS 2025 will train the participants in data processing and imaging of very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations. The school will cover lectures from basics in radio interferometry in general to VLBI in particular. There will be extensive hands-on sessions to process and analyze VLBI data, focused on observations from the European VLBI Network (EVN). JVS 2025 is the evolution of the CASA-VLBI Workshop previously organized at JIVE.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Netherlands or Pretoria in September 2025!
